SB-20 PASSES IN ALASKA
STATE HOUSE & SENATE!

After two years of hard, dedicated work, SB-20 "An Act Relating to Offenses Against Unborn Children", sponsored by Senator Fred Dyson, has finally passed in both the House and the Senate. This legislation recognizes that when a criminal attacks a pregnant woman and injures or kills both her and her unborn child, that criminal has injured or killed two people - the mother and her unborn child. Until now, the unborn child was not recognized as a victim of the violence which claimed her/his mother's life.

Senator Fred Dyson expressed his appreciation for Representatives Kelly and Coghill and their participation in getting this legislation passed. He also stated that the Executive Director of Alaska Right to Life, Karen Lewis, was "magnificent" in her lobbying efforts.

Senator Dyson said "This bill is probably more important than [anyone] realize[s] based on the vehemence of the opposition. They must realize the inconsistency of protecting the wanted unborn child in a world of permissive abortion."

Alaska Right to Life thanks all who contributed to the success in making this bill become law. A special thanks to all those who called, faxed or emailed their Representatives, urging them to support this bill without amendment.

Thanks, also, to the Legislative Aides that went above and beyond the call of duty on behalf of the unborn.
