We have a lot of work to do if we’re going to VETO HB 195.
All that work comes down to what matters most in high stakes political operations like this one: how do we convince an undecided, uncommitted Governor to be a reliable HB 195 VETO?
You’ve probably heard a politician say that it’s the carefully crafted letter, or the skillfully delivered committee testimony that moves a waffling politician to committed action.
Other politicians will tell you that cultivating a relationship with a politician who will take your call or meet for coffee is what really moves the Governor from ambivalence to pro-life advocate.
But what really gets a politician’s attention – what matters most in high stakes political operations is: large numbers.
Large Numbers
Defeating HB 195 requires a large volume of all kinds of opposition.
A large number of petitions, emails, phone calls, pressure mailers, flyer drops, etc. is what moves an uncommitted Governor – to a principled VETO.
Here is where I need your help: time is running out and we need thousands more Alaskans to sign petitions, send emails, and call the governor’s office, urging him to VETO HB 195.
WHEN TIME RUNS OUT
Without a Veto, HB 195 Becomes Law
Once the bill is sent from the Legislature to the Governor, we have 15 days, not counting Sundays, to convince him to VETO the bill.
Until then, we must put real pressure on the Governor and his staff with targeted mail, petition deliveries, digital outreach, and direct mobilization.
That takes petition signatures and phone calls. And it we need them NOW.
Three things you can do right now to make an even BIGGER DIFFERENCE in the fight for babies:
1. Please call the Governor – in 3 minutes you can call his office and leave a brief message urging him to VETO HB 195, and move on with your day.

Your call is simple: please VETO HB 195 because it allows pharmacists to prescribe, administer, or dispense abortion pills.
2. Please send us more petition signers – by emailing as many friends and family members as you can. Politicians know how to count – and more petitions is ALWAYS better.

EMAIL MESSAGE:
I’m concerned about a bill that opens the door for abortion pills (the kind that accounted for 730 abortions in Alaska last year) to be prescribed and dispensed by pharmacists.
I’ve signed a petition to veto the bill, but the abortion lobby is pressuring Governor Dunleavy to sign it.
The bill is HB 195 and Dunleavy must veto it before June 17th when it becomes law.
We know that every Mifepristone/Misoprostol abortion pills kill a baby, and 1 in 10 women that take them suffer serious or even life-threatening complications.*
