REPRESENTATIVE KEVIN MCCABE (R)  BIG LAKE

THE PERVASIVE SACRIFICE OF CHILDREN

If saving “just one life” is heroic as Representative Cathy Tilton has said many times, then dismissing the loss of an innocent life as trivial, especially when it’s funded by taxpayers isn’t just a moral inconsistency; it is a fundamental flaw in our understanding of right and wrong.

And that’s where we find ourselves today with Kevin McCabe’s Must Read Alaska article, Rep. Kevin McCabe: The pervasive sacrifice of truth in favor of an agenda in which Mr. McCabe does not mince words: Alaska Right to Life has “sacrificed the truth” in order to push an agenda.

Sadly, Mr. McCabe’s own diatribes miss the mark time and again.  A consistent complaint from Mr. McCabe is that we think some legislators “are not as “right-to-life” as they should be.

Mr. McCabe could not more obviously state the obvious.

What alternative would he prefer from a pro-life organization?  Is being “right-to-life” something we should score on a 1 to 10 scale?

That’s as ridiculous as Mr. McCabe’s complaint.  We’re talking about men and women elected to representative office who swore an oath to uphold both the US and Alaskan Constitutions.  Neither of those Constitutions recognize the right to kill babies or access to the public treasury for the funding thereof.

Concerning our House Representatives, State Senators, and our Governor, the burning in their bosom for the plight of the unborn is meaningless if it is not reflected in their bill sponsorships and votes cast.

You and I cannot sponsor legislation.  We do not have ‘YEA’ and ‘NAY’ voting buttons on our desks.

Mr. McCabe, Speaker Tilton, and 58 other House Representatives and Senators do.

They alone are responsible for the bills they sponsor and the votes they cast.

Likewise, they are responsible for their refusal to “stand up for the babies.”

To put it plainly, any elected representative whose votes, actions, and inaction maintain the unholy, immoral, and unconstitutional status quo of killing babies and raiding the public treasury to pay the killers’ fees is not “right-to-life” at all.

The Right to Life ‘AGENDA’

Roe v Wade has been overruled.  The US Supreme Court affirmed what we’ve been saying for over 50 years: there is no right to abortion in our Constitution, nor can one be inferred or interpreted in any part of the Constitution.

The Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health opinion makes it abundantly clear that the right to “regulate abortion belongs to the people and their representatives.”  Alaska Right to Life will never advocate “regulating abortion,” but since God’s design for government requires that innocent lives be protected, then one logical step on the way to abolishing abortion is for our government to refuse to pay for a single baby to be killed.

Since there is no right to abortion, then it follows that there is no right to abortion funding.

Alaska’s Legislature and Governor must immediately act in a moral and constitutional manner that prohibits abortion funding budgets and refuses to pay for a single baby to be killed by abortion.

None of this is new, and Mr. McCabe not only knows it, but he has campaigned on these points many times.

Unfortunately, his only contribution to protecting babies’ lives so far is the opposition as we find in his recent article.

Regarding the veracity of our claim that “Speaker Tilton led the Republican House Majority to vote for abortion funding committee assignments 1/19/2023 and 1/22/2024,” let us consider the official record:

Speaker Tilton assigned 6 abortion advocates and 5 Republicans to House Finance on 1/19/2023.  The House Finance organization also assigned two abortion advocate Co-Chairs to one Republican Co-Chair.  Abortion Advocates have total control over House Finance with a 2:1 Co-Chair and 6:5 Member organization.

The House voted 39 to 1 to ratify the Speaker’s Committee on Committees Report the same day.

That House Finance Committee produced a budget that guaranteed Alaskans would be forced to pay for babies to be killed despite our overwhelming objection to taxpayer-funded abortions in Alaska.

Earlier this month, Alaska Right to Life became aware of the opportunity to reorganize the House Finance Committee due to Representative Baker’s recent appointment as Representative Patkotak’s replacement in District 40.

With the opportunity opening, Alaska Right to Life contacted Representative Tilton and every Republican in the House urging them to reorganize House Finance to reflect the Republican Majority (22 Republicans to 18 Democrats and Independents) and to prohibit abortion funding in the 2025 Operating Budget.

Instead, while Speaker Tilton made many changes beyond Representative Baker’s assignments, she refused to make the two simple changes to House Finance that would have given babies a chance.

The House voted 39 to 1 in favor of maintaining the abortion funding status quo on 1/22/2024.

The veracity of our claims is supported by the official Legislature’s records.  Speaker Tilton, Rep. McCabe, and 38 other House Members voted to put abortion advocates in control of the House Finance Committee last year, and they voted to maintain that pro-abortion status quo again just last week.

That Finance Committee produced an abortion funding budget last year.  Saving the grace and providence of God, the House Finance Committee will produce another abortion funding budget this year too.

Mr. McCabe argues that to make two House Finance Committee changes, the Speaker would need at least 21 votes House Majority Caucus votes – something the Majority Caucus would not survive.

If changing two Finance Committee Member assignments would break the House Majority Caucus to reflect the Republican majority in the House, then perhaps the Republicans should not have caucused with abortion advocates in their majority.

Let’s be clear: what is needed is 21 Republican votes.  21 Republican votes for a Finance Committee that reflects the Republican Majority – and the overwhelming will of Alaskan voters (there are only 13 registered Democrats in the House).

Since 21 Republican votes for a Republican-led Finance Committee is a bridge too far for the 22 Republicans in the House, perhaps Mr. McCabe should redirect his ire at the Republicans who would not vote for a Republican House Finance Committee.

Unless something changes, the 2025 Operating Budget will go into effect more than two years after Roe v Wade was tossed on the dumpster fire of history.

We’ve established our agenda: protecting life from conception by prohibiting all abortion, beginning with tax-payer funded abortions.

We’ve established the record: Speaker Tilton and the Republicans in the Majority Caucus have voted twice to create and maintain an abortion funding House Finance Committee.

We’ve established both the requirement: 21 Republican votes to reorganize House Finance to reflect the Republican Majority and to prohibit abortion funding in the 2025 budget.

The only question remaining: what is Mr. McCabe’s agenda, and why are babies still being killed with your money and mine to protect it?

DEAR READER,

Do you pray for an end to abortion in Alaska?  If so, there is something urgent that you need to know…

Even though Roe v Wade is in the dustbin of history, the abortion industry is ramping up its efforts here in Alaska with more chemical abortions than we’ve ever seen along with more abortion advocates in the Legislature than at any time in Alaska’s history.

We will fight to protect babies until every child is ensured the right to life, equal protection, and equal justice as both God and our Constitution require.

This is where you come in.

With lives hanging in balance, I hope you will sign this urgent pledge and commit to stand for life!

Alaska Right To Life

As Alaskans committed to ending abortion for over 45 years, we’re just like you – we’re everyday Alaskans with jobs, and families, living the Alaskan dream, and we want abortion to end and all innocent human lives protected – especially the most innocent and vulnerable.

Alaska Right To Life understands how hard it is to save a single life.  We continue to build coalitions with other ministries, churches, and other advocacy and political groups so that we can protect innocent human lives in any and every way possible.

We have helped tens of thousands of Alaskans get involved, serve in ministry, save babies, influence elections and legislation, and save lives since 1973.

STOP ABORTION FUNDING

Representative Tilton, if saving “just one life” is heroic, then dismissing the loss of an innocent life as trivial, especially when it’s funded by taxpayers isn’t just a moral inconsistency; it is a fundamental flaw in your understanding of right and wrong.

I am urging you to reorganize the House Finance Committee to ensure that not a single cent of public money is used to fund abortion. This is your duty, your moral imperative.
