I mentioned earlier that we have a lot of work to do if we’re going to defeat HB 195 & SB 147.
All that work comes down to what matters most in high stakes political operations like this one: how do we convince swing, or undecided, go-along to get-along politicians to be a reliable NO VOTE on HB 195 & SB 143?
You’ve probably heard a politician say that it’s the carefully crafted letter, or the skillfully delivered committee testimony that moves a swing vote from YEA to NAY.
Other politicians will tell you that cultivating a relationship with a politician who will take your call or meet for coffee is what really moves a politician from ambivalence to pro-life advocate.
But what really gets a politician’s attention – what matters most in high stakes political operations like this is: large numbers.
Large Numbers
Defeating HB 195 / SB 147 requires a large volume of all kinds of opposition.
The large number of petitions, emails, phone calls, pressure mailers, flyer drops, etc. is what moves a swing vote – a go-along to get-along swing vote to a solid NAY.
Here is where I need your help: time is running out and we need thousands more Alaskans to sign petitions, send emails, and call politicians, urging them to VOTE NO on HB 195 & SB 147.
The Next Vote
Before the next vote, we must put real pressure on the lawmakers who can still be moved through targeted mail, petition deliveries, digital outreach, and direct mobilization.
That takes petition signatures and money. And it we need them NOW.
Three things you can do right now to make a BIGGER DIFFERENCE in the fight for babies:
1. Please send us more names – you can send as many emails to friends and family members as you like – in any way you like. Politicians know how to count – voters and constituents – and more is ALWAYS better.
2. Fund the Fight to protect babies and their moms. Please chip in whatever you can. It takes time and costs money to process, send, print, and deliver pressure mail and petitions.
3. Share the petition page on Facebook or X. Your accounts can reach people that we cannot without spending money – your social media account can be used to save babies!
