A Warning

Some say that it’s the carefully crafted letter, or the skillfully delivered testimony that moves a swing vote from YEA to NAY.

Others will tell you that having a relationship with a politician that will take your call or meet for coffee is what moves a politician from ambivalence to passionate advocate.

Long letters, testimony, phone calls, and townhall talks won’t hurt.  They won’t make a difference, but they will distract us from what will.

Defeating HB 195 / SB 147 requires large numbers of all kinds of opposition. 

The large number of petitions, emails, phone calls, pressure mailers, flyer drops, etc. is what moves a swing vote – a go-along to get-along swing vote to a solid NAY.

I’m concerned about a pair of bills that are advancing rapidly through the Alaska Legislature.

I’m concerned about a pair of bills that open the door for abortion pills (the kind that account for about 60% of abortions in Alaska) to be prescribed and dispensed by retail pharmacists.

I’ve signed a petition to defeat the bill(s), but the politicians supporting the bills aren’t backing down.

The bills are HB 195 in the Alaska House and SB 147 in the Alaska Senate, and they both have just one more committee to get through before final passage.

What we know about the Mifepristone/Misoprostol abortion pills is that every pill kills a baby, and 1 in 10 women that take them suffer serious or even life-threatening complications.*
